Breast reduction

BREAST REDUCTION

Procedure

It is a procedure that removes fat, breast glandular tissue and skin from the breast creating a smaller and firmer bust. Breast reduction surgery can also reduce the size of the areolar and restore the sagging of the breast to give a more youthful appearance to the bust. Some women undergo this procedure to satisfy their desire to have a smaller chest, other women for back and neck pain that is sometimes associated with very large busts.

There are many breast reduction techniques, however the most common involves an anchor incision or "Inverted T" which goes around the areola, extends vertically and posteriorly follows the curves of the breast fold. Occasionally in breast reductions when only fat resection is desired, it can be done by liposuction, leaving minimal scars. In most cases, the nipples tend to remain attached to their blood vessels and nerves, however, sometimes if the breasts are very large and pendulous, the nipples and areolas must be removed and positioned in a higher position which may result in loss of sensation.
