Procedure

Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure used to remove excess skin and fatty tissue from the middle and lower abdomen and to close the muscles of the abdominal wall. Abdominoplasty is not a surgical procedure used as a treatment for being overweight. Obese patients need to lose weight prior to body contouring procedures and achieve a stable weight.

There are a variety of different techniques used by plastic surgeons for abdominoplasty. Abdominoplasty can be combined with other body contouring surgeries such as suction liposuction or performed at the same time as other elective surgeries. Liposuction may be a surgical alternative to a tummy tuck if there is good skin tone and localized abdominal fat deposits in a normal weight individual.
